Restored to full-luxe status in 2002 by famed hotelier Sir Rocco Forte, the Hotel de Russie is an outstanding 5-star property. It boasts unique terraced gardens, which provide a tranquil oasis amidst the bustle of central Rome. Here guests can dine alfresco or enjoy a peaceful stroll.
Hanging on the walls of the 129 guestrooms there are none of the usual reproductions of period prints typical of grand hotels. Instead there is only genuine, signed photography, as well as large colour photographs of flowers by the great photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. The walls are finished in very delicate and restful pastel hues, as is the upholstery. The bathroom designs range from the classical to the contemporary, but they are all finished in marble or marble mosaic.
In the hotel’s "Le Jardin du Russie" restaurant, chef Nazzareno Menghini places emphasis on using local produce and the very best Italian ingredients to produce a sumptuous Mediterranean menu. Alternatively, the "Stravinskij Bar" has an extensive selection of refreshments and Roman delicacies if you would prefer something lighter. In the evening you can savour the 'De Russie Martini', served with caviar, whilst enjoying live music in the Russie gardens.
